Each newsletter describes what your child has been learning in school, what they will be learning the following week, and homework assignments your child will be receiving.
It has been another busy week in the 2/3 community!
Writing – In writing this week the students reviewed the strategies they learned in Unit 1 to generate ideas for writing a story. Students drew, made lists, or wrote sentences to generate an idea for a story. The students shared their stories with the class. We continued to build our writing community by listening respectfully to the thinking of others. Using the prompts “I found out…” and/ or “I liked your story because…”, the students expressed interest in and appreciation for one another’s writing. Math - In math this week the students began their exploration of fractions. The students solved story problems in which they had to partition single objects represented by 2-dimensional shapes into equal halves. The students also used various Geoblocks to continue their exploration that halves can be equal size, but different shapes. Their exploration continued by folding a square piece of paper in different ways to make halves and fourths. Finally, the students colored rectangles divided into thirds. Next Week : Reading – Next week the students will continue to work with the story, A Tree is Nice and begin to learn new vocabulary words from this story.
